Description

Probate copy of the will of Francis Gregory of Stivichall, esq., dated 17 November 1831, with the following bequests: to his wife, Frances, all linen and various items of silver (specified), 1000 pounds to furnish a house, his carriage horses, and carriage, and a mortgage debt of 2500 pounds owed to the said Francis Gregory by his son Arthur Francis Gregory for his Brinklow estates (or 2500 pounds should the mortgage be redeemed before his death); To his daughter Mariana, five shares in the County Fire Office; To his daughter Caroline, two shares in the Union Canal; To his son Arthur William, two shares in the New Union Canal; To his son Arthur Francis, all the rest of his personal estate and several parcels of land in Stivichall containing twenty acres, which he purchased from the Master and Fellows of Christ's College, Cambridge, subject to the payment of 1500 pounds to his wife Frances; or, should she die within the lifetime of the said Francis, then this sum and the mortgage debt, 4000 pounds in all, should be divided equally amongst all the children of the said Francis, except Arthur Francis; To his son Arthur Francis, all the residue of his estates in Stivichall and elsewhere in tail male according to the uses determined for the manor house and lordship of Stivichall in the will of his father, Arthur Gregory, dated 18 August 1791 [no. 953]; also the advowsons of the churches of Stivichall and Corley for the same uses. Appointment of Arthur Francis Gregory and Frances Gregory as executors. Will dated 17 November 1831, and signed by the said Francis Gregory in the prescence of Edward Inge, Richard Dewes and William Smith. Certificate of probate attached granted to the executors named above on 19 November 1833 (7 3/4 x 7 3/4 ins.) Papered seal of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury on tag.
