Copy of 18 January 1469/70. Probate [21 June 1471] copy of will of Richard Archer of Stotfold [Staffs.] esq. To be buried in church of St.Mary Magdalene, Tanworth ['Tonword'] to which bequeaths 4 marks, 12 lbs. wax candles to be burnt around body on day of funeral and 8 torches to be burning on day of funeral to be carried by 8 poor and industrious persons chosen by executors, to whom given 1 russet doublet each. 20/- to Sir Thomas Smyth his chaplain; 6/8 to the fabric of said church and 6/8 to fabric of parish church of Sekynton. 40/- to Henry Benford 20/- to Emetrud, wife of said Henry; 1 cow to Richard Benford; 20/- to Richard Spencer; 20/- to Roger Deyster; 40/- to Convent of Polesworth; 13/4 to Friars minor at Lichfield; 40/- to brothers of Ellisford; 13/4 to brothers of the Gild of Birmingham; 13/4 to brothers of Gild of St.Mary of Lichfield; 13/4 to brothers of Gild of St. John the Baptist of Milsale; 20/- to bridge of St. Mary of Tamworth. Residue after debts to Joan his wife who executrix with William Comberford and Thomas Draper. Witnesses: Henry Walford, John Breton Codicil: 20/- to Nicholas Cornet his servant, to godson John Archer 8 oxen and one iron plough. Codicil: 31 March 1471 Grants a croft in Stotfold called Balleyard and a parcel of meadow in Haselor to trustees William Cumberford, Thomas Draper, Thomas Smyth, chaplain, Nic. Cornet, Henry Benford and Richard Spencer, in trust to apply profits to repair parish church of Stotfold: other lands and tenements and rent of 8/- from burgage in Tamworth in occupation Alured Marshall to trustees, after death of said Alured to pay chaplain to say divine service. Manor of Moreton Bagot to be sold and money spent for safety of testator's soul and that of Alice formerly his wife and of his parents. 3d arising from lands in Ammington in tenure Richard Phillmore and 1 1b. pepper from lands in Haselor in occupation John Ryhill to repair of church as aforesaid.
