Description

Declaration by John Payton (aged 67) that the Mulberry Tree in the White Lion garden was a slip from Shakespeare's tree at New Place, planted by William Shakespeare of Knowle Hall (d. 1762) at Rowington and transplanted by John Payton his father, of the White Lion, who married the said William Shakespeare's widow in 1766. 25 May 1814.
