Ferrers of Baddesley Clinton

Description

Settlement on the marriage of Edward Ferrers of Baddesley Clinton, esq., to Hester Bird, daughter of Edward Chapman Bird of London, merchant, being a conveyance from Edward Ferrers to Christopher Wren of Wroxall, esq., and Thomas Evetts of Balsall Temple, gentleman (for £3,000 paid by Edward Chapman Bird) of the manors of Baddesley Clinton and Kingswood and lands in Baddesley Clinton, Kingswood, Packwood, Knowle, Rowington and Lapworth, to hold in trust, the estates (specified) being divided to provide for Edward Ferrers during his lifetime, his intended wife whilst alive and in her widowhood, and for their children, but to devolve ultimately on his eldest son. Arrangements are also made for paying off most of the late Thomas Ferrers' debts and securing the payment of £4,000 in portions to Edward Ferrers' sisters, as arranged in a settlement of 8 and 9 June 1737 (nos. DR 422/3-5) and confirmed and added to by his father's will (no. DR 422/8). Provision is also made for raising portions for any younger sons or daughters which may be born.
