Abstract of title to a malthouse in Stratford-upon-Avon, reciting: i) 2 and 3 February 1737/8 Conveyance by lease and release from John Lacy the younger, only son of John Lacy the elder of Stratford-upon-Avon, baker, to Richard Goode of Stratford-upon-Avon, joiner, of a messuage in High Street, bounded on the south by a messuage of Joseph Gibbs, hatter, and on the north by a messuage of Abel Payton, ironmonger, and consisting of a parlour, shop facing the street, kitchen adjoining 4 chambers above, a garret, and also a malthouse, millhouse, stable, barn, garden and yard belonging to the said messuage. ii) 15 April 1741: Will, dated 13 February 1740, of the said Richard Goode, bequeathing his messuage and premises in High Street to his son, Salisbury Goode. Proved in the Peculiar Court of Stratford-upon-Avon, 15 April 1741. iii) 3 and 4 August 1743: Conveyance by lease and release from the said Salisbury Goode to Mary Goode, widow, mother of the said Salisbury Goode, for £150 of the property described in DR274/1/i. iv) 4 September 1745: Will, dated 4 September 1745, of the said Mary Goode, bequeathing the property described in DR274/1/i, then in the tenure of Samuel Jarvis, to her daughter, Elizabeth. v) 27 and 28 June 1782: Conveyance by lease and release from Richard Bolton of Stratford-upon-Avon, yeoman, (son and heir of William Bolton and Elizabeth his wife, formerly Elizabeth Goode, spinster, both deceased) and his brothers, William Bolton and Thomas Bolton, to Elizabeth Hitchcox, principal creditor and joint administratrix of the estate of the said William Bolton, for the payment of the debts of the said William Bolton, deceased, of the property described in DR274/1/i, in trust to sell. vi) 21 and 22 May 1789: Conveyance by lease and release from the said Elizabeth Hitchcox to John Gruby of Stratford-upon-Avon, ironmonger, for £120 of the property described in DR274/1/i, and reciting DR274/1/v. vii) 3 August 1805: Assignment from William Page of Oldborough, yeoman, with the consent of the said John Gruby, to William Featherstone of Stratford-upon-Avon, victualler, of a mortgage of 18 August 1800 from John Gruby to William Page of premises in Stratford-upon-Avon, not previously described, for 2000 years to secure £150; with a further mortgage from the said John Gruby to the said William Featherstone of the property described in DR274/1/i for 1000 years to secure £50. viii) 18 August 1809: Further charge from John Gruby to John Featherstone, only child and administrator of the estate of William Featherstone, died intestate, of all the property mortgaged in DR274/1/vii, to secure £100. ix) 18 December 1811: Feoffment from the said John Gruby, with the consent of the said John Featherstone, to Joseph Walker of Bridgetown in Alveston, yeoman, of a malthouse in High Street behind a messuage fronting the street now in the occupation of Elizabeth Whitehead, widow, bounded on the north by a malthouse belonging to the Corporation of the Borough of Stratford-upon-Avon and on the south side by a passage leading from the said street to the said malthouse and the garden belonging to it and to property belonging to the said John Gruby, Elizabeth Whitehead and John Tasker, and adjoining on the east a cottage belonging to the said John Gruby and extending westward in length 21 yards 1 foot and in breadth 15 feet; also the small parcel of land situated at the west end of the said malthouse, extending in length westward 18 feet and in breadth 15 feet; and excepting the part of the said malthouse which projected from the main building across the said passage to the property of the said John Tasker, which part had been used as a granary and was intended to be taken down; and reserving free use of the well and pump standing under part of the said malthouse to the occupiers of the premises now held by John Gruby, Elizabeth Whitehead and John Tasker, for which they would pay 3 parts in 4 of the cost of upkeep. Reciting: i) no. vii ii) no. viii iii) agreement between the said John Gruby and the said Joseph Walker for the sale for £140 of the property described above, the said John Featherstone having been paid the principal and interest due to him according to DR274/1/vii and 1/viii.
