Description

Deeds relating to the Leigh family of Stoneleigh Abbey and their estates in Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Cheshire, Staffordshire, Leicestershire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire, beginning with a settlement of November 1812 and ending with miscellaneous transactions concerning charges on the estates, 1886-1921. In five bundles as follows: /1: three items, including settlement on the marriage of Chandos Leigh and Margarette Willes, 1819, and subsequent settlement between Chandos Leigh and his son, William Henry Leigh, 1848; 1812-48 /2: releases from the younger children of James Henry Leigh and Chandos Lord Leigh to William Henry Lord Leigh in sums due to them under various settlements; 1851-1905 /3: further releases to William Henry Lord Leigh in sums due to family members under the same various settlements, together with a settlement of the Longborough estate (1852) and a charge on land in Stoneleigh (1880); 1852-80. /4: deeds concerning further charges on the estate, including a deed of exchange of land in Long Itchington (1902) and a statutory declaration concerning the Longborough estate (1921); 1886-1921 /5: Original bundle labelled: 'Lord Leigh's Settled Estates: deeds relating to mortgages on properties in [the counties of] Warwick, Stafford, Leicester and Chester raised under trusts of term of 1200 years created by deeds of 4th and 5th Nov. 1812'
