National Shakespeare Monument: Wheler Papers

Description

Letters, accounts and other papers, 1820-30, relating to a scheme for erecting a National Monument to Shakespeare at Stratford, suggested by Charles Matthews, the elder, decided upon at a meeting at Stratford on 19 December 1820, and ended by the return of subscriptions to the donors in 1827.
