Description
Will of William Shakespeare, of Knowle Hall, co. Warw., gent. [d. 1762], bequeathing (subject to his settlement on Anne, his new wife, formerly Anne Ives) to his kinsman Richard Taylor (nephew of Mary Taylor his first wife), of Chaddesley Corbett, co. Worcs., clerk, his messuage and all his lands etc., in Rowington, Hatton and Shrewley, co. Warw., to hold for life, with remainder in tail to William Tayler his son (the said William paying £100 to Vaughan Tayler his brother and £50 to Mary Tayler his sister) and in default to the said Vaughan Tayler, his heirs and assigns (paying £50 to Mary Tayler as above), the said estates being charged with payment of legacies after mentioned; also bequeathing to Anne his wife all his messuages, lands, etc. in Knoll or Knole, Lapworth, Hampton in Arden, and Badgley Clinton or Badsley Clinton, co. War
w., purchased of Thomas Boothby, esq., junior, with copyholds of the manor of Knowle lately purchased of the same Thomas Boothby and enfranchised by Richard Smith, Esq., lord of the said manor; with legacies to his sister Mary Ryton and sister-in-law Katherine Ives (£10 each), the poor of Rowington (£10) and of Knowle (£5), his servants (£2 each), his kinswoman Mary, wife of Serjeant Hornblower, of Kidderminster, mercer (£100), the said Richard Tayler (£50), Joseph Tayler of London, apothecary, and James Tayler, of Birmingham, edgetoolmaker (£20 each), Elizabeth Green his kinswoman, wife of Joseph Green, of Evesham, dyer (£20), Anne Chattock his kinswoman, wife of Thomas Chattock, gent., and Richard and Thomas her sons (£20 each), Alice Merry of Sherborne, co. Warw., widow (£20), Anne Piddock his kinswoman, wife of James Piddock, of Birmingham, buttonmaker (£20), Anne Prattenton, spinster, daughter of Joseph [Prattenton]....
