Agreement concerning Marriage Settlement: Shottery

Description

Indenture between John Barber the younger, son and heir apparent of John Barber of Shottery near Stratford-upon-Avon, yeoman and Martha, his wife, late Martha Grove, sister of Francis Grove of Badsey in co. Worcs., gent., of the one part, the said Francis Grove and John Grove of Bishampton in co. Worcs., clerk, another brother of her the said Martha, and Peter Penny of Bengworth in the borough of Evesham, co. Worcs., gent., of the other part, reciting that a marriage had lately been solemnized between the said John Barber junior and the said Martha and that various differences had arisen between the said John and his wife in relation to the settling of the fortune of the said Martha (the said fortune being uncertain unless the said Francis Grove was pleased to remit certain sums of money to his said sister amounting to £360) and agreeing that the said sum shall be placed out at 5% interest and if she dies the interest of £250 is to be paid to her husband and the other £100 to be entirely at his disposal. Witnesses: Joseph Smith, John Harward, J. Bulleine and E. Burton.
