Assignment of Leases: Rhyn Clifford and Bridgetown

Assignment dated 4 March 43 Elizabeth [1601], by William Clopton of Sledwich, co. Durham, esq., to Sir George Carew, Knt., Lieutenant of H. M. Ordnance, for £160 of two leases, viz. one from Anthony Barker of Sonning, co. Berks., clerk, warden of the College of Holy Trinity, Stratford-upon-Avon, and John Barker of Okingham, [Wokingham] co. Berks., senior, gent., executors of the will of William Barker of Sonning, gent., and Thomas and John Barker, junior, sons of the said John Barker, senior, to William Clopton, senior, 24 April 5 Edward VI [1551] of the tithe of 'all corne, hey, woll, lambe, pigg and goose' in Bridgtowne in the parish of Stratford-upon-Avon, together with the tithe barn, for 64 years, to begin at Lady Day 1570, at a rent of £15 4s 0d; the other from Lodowicke Grevill of Milcote, esq., to Richard Harrington, senior, 18 October 7 Elizabeth [1565] of a messuage, lands, etc. in Bridgtowne and Ryen Clifforde for 30 years at a rent specified; the estates in which Leases had passed to Thomas Crompton of London, esq., and from him to John Clopton esq., father of the now assignor. Witnesses:George Harrison, Richard Pawlfreyman, Francis Woldon and Henry Dale.
