Description
Lease from Thomas Wawnewryght of Stratford-upon-Avon, yeoman, and Margaret his wife, to Alice Smyth of Stratford-upon-Avon, late wife of John Smyth, tailor, of one half burgage in Dedelane [Chapel Lane], Stratford-upon-Avon, between the tenement of the Abbot of Reading and the tenement of the Prioress of Pinley, now in the tenure of John Gylbert, for the term of her life, paying yearly one penny at the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist; and she to keep it in repair at her own expense, save that the said Thomas and Margaret shall find one cart load of straw for the repair of the said tenement; and if it should happen that the said Alice shall die before Margaret Smyth, daughter of the said Alice, that then the said Margaret shall remain in the said tenement if she wishes for one month after the decease of the said Alice her mother. Seal lost: the tag of this and ER3/1974 are part of a document bearing date the Friday after Michaelmas 11 Edward IV [1471] mentioning John Curteys and William Curtyes of Stratford-upon-Avon and Nicholas Cowley.
