Description

Feoffment from Robert Grene of Coventr' grocer, John Smyth clerk, and Richard Smyth draper, feoffees of Margaret Clerk, alias Passand, widow of Richard Clerk alias Passand, to Edward Fowke clerk, William Jakson' clerk and Humfrey Hyde chaplain, of one messuage in Coventr' in Gosfordstrete between the tenement of the Guild of the Holy Trinity of Coventr' and the tenement of the prior and convent of the cathedral church of the Blessed Mary of Coventr' in breadth, and extending in length from the said street to the land of the said Guild, also all other the lands tenements and hereditaments of them the said feoffees in the town and fields of Stichall', Allysley, and Bedworth' or elsewhere in the county and city of Coventry or in the counties of Warwick and Leicester which heretofore the said feoffees had jointly with Richard Scryvyn' chaplain, deceased, by the grant of the said Margaret (except those lands etc. which the said Margaret in her last will and testament devised to the prior and convent of the house and church of St. Anne of the Carthusian Order near Coventr'); to hold the same of the chief lord of the fee for the fulfillment of the last will of the said Richard Clerk alias Passand and Margaret his wife. Appointment of Thomas Rookeley as attorney to deliver seisin of the said premises. Witnesses: John Boteler of Coventr' gent., William Banwell' of the same mercer, Walter Corbet and many others. Dated at Coventr', 27 January, 3 Henry VIII. Three seals on tags: red, bearing merchants' marks, the tags being portions of earlier documents. Endorsed: i) Nota pro Coventria ii) Jo. Smyth, Rob. Grene cum aliis, feoffees to Margaret Clerke grante to Ed. Fowke et aliis unius messuagees in Gosfordstreete, also all their lands in Stichale, Allesley, Bedworth, 3 Henry 8.
