Stratford-upon-Avon Dispensary was established in premises at 21 Chapel Street in 1823, moving to Chapel Lane in 1835. A new Hospital was opened on the Alcester Road in 1884, replacing the Dispensary. In 1929 its administration was transferred to the Public Assistance Committee of Warwickshire County Council
