Compton Verney: early deeds, Kingston and Compton Murdak, a grant

Description

Grant by William Boteler, late of Coventry to Edmund Verney, esq., and Elizabeth his wife, of all his vills and manors called Kingston and Compton Mordak alias Compton Verney with all their lands, tenements, woods, warrens, wardships, marriages, releifs, escheats, rents, reversions c. which Henry Boteler his father, deceased, Thomas Littelton, sergeant at law, John Broun, John Bellers, Everard Diggeby, John Temse, John Seggesmond, clerks, Thomas Boughton, Thomas Moston, Richard Wode, Richard Prudham, John Justice, clerk and William Braytoft had by gift and feoffment of Ralph Boteler, lord of Sudeley, knight; John, Lord Beauchamp, knight; William Breton; Thpmas Hill, John Redehill and Lawrence Viler, clerks.

They had it by gift and feoffment of Richard Verney, father of the said Edmund, now deceased.

To hold the said vill and manor of Kingston to the said Edmund and Elizabeth and the heirs of the body of the said Edmund or, in default to his right heirs, of the chief lord of the fee for services due and accustomed, reserving to the said William Boteler and his heirs 2 closes:

One of which, worth 20 marks per annum, is called 'Le Estfeld' lies towards Egynton and was late in the tenure of John Thomkyns.
The other, worth 20 marks per annum, payable to the said Edmund and Elizabeth, is called 'Le Westfeld', lies towards Lighthorne and was late in the tenure of William Burton.

Compton Mordak alias Compton Verney is entailed upon the male heirs of the bodies of Edmund and Elizabeth, with remainer to the right heirs of Edmund. Provison for portion of Elizabeth without impeachment of waste. Provison for Edmund to sell or settle lands worth 20 marks per annum to the life use of each of any sons or daughters and to sell or grant lands to the yearly value of 4 marks according to the will of his late father Richard Verney.

Appointment by William Boteler of Walter Clynk, vicar of Kyngton and Willaim Mason of Lighthorne as his attornies to deliver seisin.
