Cyril Collard: Wellesbourne research papers

Files and card indexes compiled from the 1990s by Cyril Collard during his researches into the history of Wellesbourne during the nineteenth century. His principle interest was the functioning of the rural economy, with particular reference to the agricultural labourer, and the papers comprise copies and analyses of the major sources available, viz. census returns; tithe and land tax records; school, church and chapel records; directories, newspapers and electoral rolls; farm account books etc. Much of his work remains unpublished but a typescript ('A rural economy: Wellesbourne Walton, south Warwickshire, c. 1830-1850', with numerous detailed appendices) is catalogued on the library shelves at 87.3 Wellesbourne. See also his contributions to the Kineton and Wellesbourne District Advertiser (DR 1170/1/21 below) and his 'Thomas Parker (1838-1912) of Wellesbourne: farm labourer, Primitive Methodist lay preacher, trade union organiser and parish councillor', in Warwickshire History, x, no. 2 (Winter 1996/7)
