Presented to the Shakespeare Memorial Library, Stratford-upon-Avon, by Sir Theodore Martin K.C.B., K. C. V. O., Sept. 1900., This copy is said to have belonged in turn to David Garrick and Edmund Kean. A slip, with a dated inscription, apparently in Garrick's hand, is inserted at the front of volume 1. Transcript of research note also inserted at front of volume 1: "This copy could have been given to Garrick by Lacy? The inscription has strong resemblances to Garrick's hand. If it passed to Kean it could presumably have done so as a present from Mrs. Garrick... There was a copy of Rowe's 1709 edition (7 vols) in the sale of books after Mrs. Garrick's death. The mysterious stamp ED on the covers of volumes 3, 5 and 6 could presumably stand for 'Edmund'..., Association Collection, General note: Each play has a separate title page with the imprint: "Printed in the year 1709.", and an accompanying frontispiece.
