Backstools

Description

A pair of walnut veneered and solid walnut backstools; high-backed with simple shaped tops with double-D mouldings; the shaped seat rails raised on fine cabriole legs linked with turned 'H' stretchers; the backs and seats fitted with drop-in frames, previously upholstered and covered in green patterned cross-stitch needlework; upholstery removed; the frames about 1710, upholstery a little later; considerably distressed; paper labels attached to crest now indecipherable. Among items from Shakespeare's Birthplace sold on the 16th September 1847
