Waistcoat

Description

Waistcoat, c. 1820-30. Waistcoat, the front made from silk woven with rainbow stripes. There are two pocket flaps, and it fastens at centre front with 9 metal hooks and eyes, with 9 corresponding glass (?) decorative buttons. The back is made from white linen (possibly cotton), and is lined with white linen. It is thought to have been worn at celebrations in 1824 marking the anniversary of Shakespeare's birth.
