Cypress chest

Description

A late-sixteenth century Cypress chest; the moulded rectangular two-plank top with applied cleats, carved and decorated underneath with conventional patterns and scenes with figures in penwork; the top edge of the dovetailed carcass stamped, and the front carved and decorated with penwork, now much worn, with framework of conventional ornament and scenes with figures and galleons, raised in base moulding; Italian, Adige or Venetian, about 1600., Carved Italian chest of the late 16th century.
