Description

A copper Shakespeare trade token, about 1790. Pierced for suspension., These tokens (local and non-local) passed irregularly as currency when the copper coinage was insufficient in the last quarter of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. (Source: 1925 Catalogue p. 88).
