Drug jar

Description

A Sicilian maiolica drug jar, late seventeenth century; probably made in Caltagirone, painted with formal scrolling foliage on a blue-washed ground; damaged, many repaired cracks, two chips in lip. Blue, green and pale yellow glaze on pale grey glaze background; three blue rings on upper surface; three blue rings on lower surface with crosses between two of the rings; concave base.
