Table-settle

Description

A late 17th century oak settle-table designed to convert into a table; the removable three-plank hinged top moulded and carved to the underside with incised diamonds, and with shaped cleats, linked with hinge pegs to the shaped arms raised on ball-turned supports; with low panelled back rail above the moulded seat incorporating a lidded compartment with two long panels to the front and rear, and single panels to sides, set within a moulded framework and raised on block feet; English, c.1690.
