The High Cross during the Garrick Jubilee

Description

An 18th-century oil painting showing the High or Market Cross at the top of Bridge Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, as it is decorated for David Garrick's Shakespeare Jubilee of 1769.

Conservation of the painting undertaken in 2018 was made possible thanks to an anonymous donation in memory of George L. Hacker via Shakespeare's Birthplace America.
