Portrait of a young couple

Description

A late 19th or early 20th century portrait, possibly a copy of an earlier, probably 17th century, portrait. Previously thought to have been a mid-17th century portrait. The portrait depicts a man with long hair, wearing a high-necked white shirt and black gown; his arm is around a young fair-haired woman wearing a dark green dress and red shawl, pearls at ears and neck, hair in ringlets, possibly covered by a cap. Plain wooden frame with gilded edge. In the past the sitters were thought to be either Thomas and Elizabeth Nash or John and Susanna Hall, there is no provenance to confirm either identification.
