Bartmannkrug

Description

A 16th-century stoneware bartmannkrug; salt glazed mottled brown round-bellied jug with cylindrical neck; stylized bearded mask on neck; below on belly an oval medallion with, at top, device of 5-spoked sun(?) over a small strip of zigzag ornament; below a heart shape; the whole surrounded by a border of darts; rim and attachment of handle both very crude.
