Armchair
Description
A late 17th century oak and pearwood armchair; the double-scrolled crest with leafy and floral infill, above a large single panel carved with lozenge and pennant decoration; flanked by turned and split applied decoration; the scrolled arms (pearwood) supported on barrel-shaped turnings; the two-plank seat on channel-moulded rails with column-turned front legs and plain stretchers; English, South Yorkshire, c.1680; the ear pieces now missing; seat replaced; at some time converted into a commode chair and later restored.
