Valence

Description

Valence, c. 1700-1800. Long, narrow, quilted and embroidered textile, possibly originally part of a bed valence. Embroidery is worked on a twill woven fabric (wool?), and features trees, stream, peacocks, frog, butterflies, and a dog chasing a deer (?). It is lined with linen with a wool interlining, and there is a strip of black velcro attached to top edge - presumably for display purposes.
