Commemorative coronation mug

Description

Early 20th-century commemorative coronation mug; ceramic with white glaze and colour transfer printed decoration; straight sided with recessed base and shaped applied handle. Portraits of Edward VII and Alexandra in separate cartouches, side by side, with a crown on a cushion between; surrounded by flags of Great Britain and the Empire; surmounted by Royal coat-of-arms; on scroll beneath 'enthroned in the hearts of their people' and 'Crowned June 26th 1902'. On opposite side: town coat-of-arms and 'Stratford-upon-Avon Commemoration, June 26th 1902' in border. On base: 'Birch Bros., 12 Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon' in roundel. Glaze crazed and in places transfers are worn. Made by Birth Brothers of 11 Henley Street Stratford-upon-Avon, 1902.
