snuff box

Description

Carved wooden snuff box in the form of a tree stump, with lid; the lid with brass hinge. Carvings of human and animal faces. The lid stamped 'FEBY 29/1847/CUT DN'. Removed from Hall's Croft exhibition July 1966, where it was on display as a piece of mulberry wood. Very possibly the same object as SBT 1885-1 ('snuff box, the lid made of mulberry wood; base of crabtree wood burr, carved in grotesques')
