Showing the last test pit dug by archaeologist Will Mitchell ahead of the exploratory trenches on the site of the 1946 mulberry tree. The artist has used acrylic paint and incorporated debris from the site.

This is one of 8 works by the artist that document the archaeological excavations on the site of New Place, 2010-2013. Spaak was a guide at Nash's House and New Place during the excavations and undertook the work as a response to the activity on the site. Spaak studied at the Royal College of Art in the 1960s under Peter Blake, Carel Weight and Roger de Gray. He is a professional artist and retired art teacher.
