Oak panel-back armchair

Description

An early 17th-century oak panel-back armchair of caqueteuse form; the lunette-carved crest flanked by turned finials above a cable-carved band; the large single panel carved with four lunettes within a cabled frame; the flat shaped arms raised on baluster-turned supports; the two-plank shaped and moulded seat raised on cabled and edge-moulded rails with baluster-turned legs and plain stretchers, raised on block feet; English, Salisbury, about 1630; top half of crest, finials, left-hand arm and support replaced; two patches to front of seat; the surface stripped and re-polished.
